It might have been 2006, I lose track of time. My dear friend and world class luthier Larry Brown died suddenly of a big heart attack. He left behind a few unfinished projects, including this 1970 Martin D41.
Larry was one of my heros. Nobody taught me more about guitar repair than he did. I admired his work.
Each time I visited his shop I looked at this guitar in a disassembled state, somehow knowing it would be a fine instrument to play. Something about it's completely thrashed condition attracted me. Like so many Old Martins, the neck angle had shifted and through compromised repair, the strings wound up so close to the top (inorder to get a low action) that the previous owner wore a hole completely through the soundboard.
When Larry died, I tracked down it's owner and negotiated a purchase. The slide show that follows details the restoration process. It is now my primary guitar to play.
