Here's the Story in 2023

Not that it makes any geopolitical difference, but performing live music is something Jack is not pursuing right now. Only on the most casual of basis is performing on stage anything of a priority. This is how it is as of  Winter 2023.

After more than a half decade of immersion in a music trio called the Downunderdogs, I decided to call it quits. At least call it quits, as it stood.

The Downunderdogs project rehearsal requirements were significant. Each gig required many rehearsals. The logistics of travel and lodging have ultimately taken too much of a toll.

Peter and Cathy Dyer are still active in the Wellington music scene, and continuing to make great music. I wish them well. I'm still making music, just not on stage. I pick regularly with Graham Lovejoy, who lives locally. We're making some high quality old time, ragtime and bluegrass music. Graham is a fantastic mandolin player, but he does not want to play on stage, and in many ways I can understand that. I regularly suggest that if he ever changes his mind, we should do a show or two. I would definitely buy into that idea. I also try to keep up with Pete and Cathy Dyer and Carol Bean. I enjoy making music with these people.

So for now, I'm concentrating on the guitar building. I hope to show some guitars around at a few music festivals soon. I have to build them first.

There is also a CD in my music computer that I would love to finish recording. It includes several new original songs and tunes. So much to do and so little time....

I can't say where things will go from here, not that it matters much. But all things are possible. Even maybe some solo performances.

As of January 2024, two concerts have been performed with Peter Madill. We call ourselves the Luthiers Corner. We played a two set show at Wellington Bluegrass Society  and a two set show at Dales House Concerts in Ohau. Both shows were well attended and we now stay reasonably current with the material we have learned to do together. There are three more performances in the works for 3-34. but nothing definite yet. There are now 3 Luthiers Corner YouTube clips in the list below
