Red Label Yamaha FG180s can be said to be the true 'Vintage' Japanese guitars. The sound and play great and are generally pretty valuable in the market place.
This particular guitar is probably one of the very early ones. The fingerboard, bridge string spacing and nut string spacing were all very narrow. It is the only one like this I have seen. To maximise playability without sacrificing originality was a challenge. The photo essay that follows describes that process. The end result has acceptable string spacing and excellent action.
